Materials & Protection

Made to carry meaning.

A Cherish Connect wallet is built around three things: rich vegetable-tanned leather, protective copper fabric lining, and portrait artwork created with the warmth of pyrography. Each detail is chosen for beauty, durability, and purpose.

Quality of leather

Vegetable-tanned leather that grows richer with time.

Vegetable-tanned leather is preserved using natural tannins from organic materials such as bark, leaves, and roots. It is a traditional, slower method that creates a strong leather with structure, character, and the ability to age beautifully.

Unlike synthetic-looking materials that stay flat and lifeless, vegetable-tanned leather responds to the life around it. Light, air, touch, natural oils from the hand, and careful conditioning all influence the surface. Over time, the leather develops a patina — a deepened tone and finish that makes every piece personal.

Natural character

Earthy tones, visible grain, and subtle variation give every wallet its own identity.

Built to soften

The leather begins with structure, then softens and molds with regular use.

Patina over time

Daily carry creates depth, warmth, and a finish that cannot be duplicated.

Made for craft

Vegetable-tanned leather can be stamped, carved, dyed, molded, and burned with detail.

What patina looks like

Week 1–2The leather feels structured with a clean, even tone. Small marks or fingerprints may begin to appear.
Month 1Edges and high-contact areas begin to darken first.
Month 3–6A visible patina begins forming. Areas touched daily deepen into warmer tan, honey, or brown tones.
Year 1The wallet begins to feel distinctly yours, with clear character from real use.
Year 3–5The leather becomes fully seasoned, darker, smoother, and more personal.

Because Cherish Connect wallets are deeply dyed, the patina may appear more subtle than on pale natural leather, but the leather will still mature, deepen, and develop character with proper care.

Caring for your leather

To help your wallet age beautifully:

  • Keep it away from heavy moisture, especially during the first month.
  • Avoid direct heat and never blow-dry the leather.
  • Clean gently with a soft cloth instead of abrasive brushes.
  • Use a leather-safe conditioner when the leather begins to feel dry.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Copper fabric lining

Built-in protection for the cards you carry every day.

Cherish Connect wallets use copper fabric lining to help reduce unwanted wireless scanning. Copper is highly conductive, so when radio-frequency signals reach the lining, the material helps reflect, absorb, and disperse that energy across its surface instead of allowing it to pass directly to your cards.

In simple terms, the lining works like a flexible Faraday-style barrier. It helps shield the inside of the wallet from external radio-frequency fields, which can help protect RFID-enabled cards from casual scanning attempts.

How the technology works

  • Electromagnetic shielding: incoming radio waves meet the conductive copper layer, which helps interrupt the signal.
  • Faraday-style protection: the woven conductive surface forms a barrier around the card area.
  • Signal reduction: the fabric is designed to weaken wireless communication between outside scanners and the cards inside.
  • Flexible everyday use: unlike rigid metal plates, copper fabric can be sewn into a leather wallet while keeping the design slim and practical.

Why it matters

Many modern cards use wireless technology for tap-to-pay convenience. Copper fabric lining adds a thoughtful layer of privacy for everyday carry — without changing the look or feel of a premium handmade wallet.

The art of pyrography

Artwork burned into leather with warmth, detail, and permanence.

Pyrography is the art of creating imagery with controlled heat. On leather, that means using carefully applied burn marks to build lines, shadows, depth, and expression directly into the surface.

The process is part craftsmanship and part fine art. Temperature, pressure, and movement all affect the final result. A lighter touch can create soft shading, while deeper heat can create stronger contrast and definition.

This is what makes each custom portrait feel personal. The artwork is not simply printed on top of the leather — it becomes part of the piece.

Long-term care for burned artwork

  • Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth when needed.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Condition the leather occasionally to help prevent dryness and cracking.
  • Keep prolonged direct sunlight to a minimum to help preserve tone and contrast.
  • Handle the design with care, just as you would any handmade art piece.

Made with materials that are meant to change, deepen, and carry a story.

From the way the leather ages, to the protective copper lining, to the warmth of burned artwork, each Cherish Connect wallet is designed to be more than a place to hold cards. It is a piece made to be carried, remembered, and cherished.
